“I do want to sign the peace agreement, but it is worth 150 billion pesos and there is no money for implementation”: Gustavo Petro.

President Gustavo Petro strongly questioned the peace agreement signed with the FARC in 2016, in addition, “there are no resources for implementation.”

News Colombia.

President Gustavo Petro has assured the will that his government has to implement the peace agreement signed with the FARC in 2016, however, he highlights that the situation is complex.

The president’s speech took place in the afternoon of this Tuesday, April 11, during the National Council for Peace, Reconciliation and Coexistencein which he warned about what was signed by the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the FARC.

This is how he questioned whether the peace agreement was made taking into account its financial viability or if it was only done to achieve the disarmament of this armed group.

«Was that agreement signed to apply it or with the intention of disarming the FARC, period?and then recast all the things in the Colombian way? Because yes, since I am not of that style, I failed there because I did not learn those tricks, “said the president.

“There are no resources for the implementation of the agreement with the FARC”

Although he has repeatedly maintained that his government’s intention is to continue the peace agreement, he states that “there are simply no resources, not even for the victims.”

«I do want to apply the peace agreement, but it is worth 150 billion. If the Santos government signed it on behalf of the State, it is a state, non-governmental agreement, according to the legal doctrine in this regard, and society is represented there by the State. So tell me, where am I going to get 150 billion?

That is why Petro proposed that the issuance of Banco de la Republica bonds should go to indemnify the victims.

Finally, the president took the opportunity to launch harsh criticism of the management of the implementation of the agreement during the period of Iván Duque.

“In four years he shattered peace because, I emphasize, only 0.3% was achieved, progress was made, “emphasized the president.
