Reduction of working hours in Colombia, when does it start? Can they lower the salary?

Reduction of working hours: Day the application starts

The working day in Colombia has some substantial changes starting next July 15when the application of a norm approved in the Congress of the Republic begins 2 years ago.

The Law 2101 of 2021 established a progressive reduction in the number of hours that Colombians work weekly.

Thus, the weekly working day will go from 48 to 42 hours in a model of gradual drop in hours that will end in a few years.

The intention was to provide equal opportunities for workersminimum and vital remuneration, employment stability, the principle of favorability and progressivity.

Under these parameters, the working day changes in the country as of July 15, 2023 when it will be reduced by one hour. With this I don’t know they will work 48 hours a week if not 47.

In that model of gradual decrease in the number of hours on July 15, 2024 the weekly working day must be maximum 46 hours per week.
