Last Monday we Mirandinos received sad news. Enrique José Mendoza D’ascoli, a great man who dedicated his life to helping others, had passed away. Solidarity like no other, with a big heart, an extraordinary human being, with an impressive capacity for work, he left an admirable and positive legacy for all of us who knew him. A full-fledged citizen.

It fell to us, the people of Petare, to give this famous Venezuelan a just and well-deserved farewell with all the love, gratitude and, of course, with the respect that a social fighter like no other deserves.

We were paying posthumous tribute to him in the Copei Regional Committee together with hundreds of leaders of all levels; then we were also witnesses in that journey in which he was honored by ordinary citizens, along the entire path in which a number of slogans were heard that identified Mendoza’s successful political career, from the Buena Vista sector of our Sucre municipality, taking it through Francisco de Miranda to the Colonial Zone of Petare, where the honors continued in the Municipal Council, in the municipal house of Copei, until it was taken to the Dulce Nombre de Jesús church, where the Nazarene was taken de Petare, of which Enrique was a devotee and collaborator.

The farewell for this tireless worker could not really be any other way, accompanied by the people for whom he worked, who he supported so much and, of course, whom he taught us and among whom I am proud to have been my mentor, of whom I learned a lot and now after his departure in this earthly world, our commitment to continue doing politics with a social base increases, to continue fighting for decentralization and change.

Among the things I learned from Enrique is that a good politician works tirelessly, that he has no schedule or date on the calendar, and that escorts are not needed to enter a neighborhood. That humility should not be lost, that a position or being in a campaign is not required to be at the side of our people.

Without a doubt, he gave us a great example of work and perseverance. A great organizer and strategist, an exemplary, honest citizen, but above all a clear example of what a public servant should be, to whom I have nothing left but to thank for all your teachings, advice and friendship.

Rest in peace “governor”, as we all called you until your last day on this plane. I am convinced that your values and teachings live on in many of us who knew you and accompanied you, and that makes you immortal, because a leader never dies. You will live forever in our hearts.

A great mentor in my life is leaving, but I must confess that it has been beautiful to see, read and feel all those good comments, which are due to nothing other than having been a great ruler.

Finally, we will continue saying and doing as you taught us, leading by example; with work, work and more work. See you forever Governor.
