The IMA seeks to stabilize the price of onion and store this item

Angel Valdes | April 10, 2023

The director of the Institute of Agricultural Marketing (IMA), Carlo Rognoni, spoke on Radio Panama about agricultural fairs at the national level, harvesting onions, helping producers, among others.
According to Rognoni, this week 34 agricultural fairs will be held nationwide from Tuesday to Sunday, in places in the provinces of Los Santos, Bocas del Toro, Comarca Ngobe-Bugle, Panamá Oeste, and Herrera, and it is a tangible solution to buy products from the basic basket at affordable prices, where rice is the most sought after item.

On the subject of onions, he explained that the logistics being carried out is very important because it is a 100% national product for the benefit of producers and buyers “In regions like Los Santos and Herrera, production is high, and what the lMA is looking for is to stabilize the price of onions at this time, which is trending downwards and we want to gradually remove them and we are going to store part of the onion and gradually remove the one from the highlands, and the most important thing is that it is a national product and the investment stays in Panama.
