MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) has been blocking users’ mobile lines without prior notice due to an alleged system error, according to complaints appearing on social networks.
Clients of the state monopoly in various provinces of the country said they had been left without communication on their mobile phones since April 4.
A message appears on the affected phones indicating that the person cannot use the line, leaving them completely cut off. The error disables the Internet, voice and SMS message services.
The ETECSA message specifies: “You are temporarily blocked. Please call customer service.”
When the affected person calls the company to file a complaint, they reply that the solution is in the hands of a branch, but when the user goes to the place they do not give him a solution either.
“Can someone tell me until when? Today is the fourth day that I was left incommunicado, and in three days my package with more than six gigabytes and hours expires, and I’m going to lose everything because I can’t recharge. Whenever I call, they tell me to go to the branch, and they always tell me something different,” he posted on the Facebook group. Friends of ETECSA Yeider Walker Ramírez, one of those affected.
In some branches they accuse the users of having inserted the line in a stolen phone, and that ETECSA would have nothing to do with that error. Many have not been able to use their line for more than a week.
A team of CubaNet He contacted customer service and from this they assured that there were “failures in the network and that this problem could take a while to be solved.” They declined to provide further details about the cause of the problem.
At the moment, ETECSA has not issued any official statement in this regard.
As a result of the mysterious blocking of lines, several users once again took the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction with respect to the mobile data Internet service.
In recent months, the state monopoly has received a barrage of complaints, while several Internet traffic meters rate Cuba as the country with the worst internet speed and quality from Latin America.
