The 72,481 passengers that Chavismo celebrates as a recovery success pales in comparison to more stable economies even in the region, since in Colombia an estimated 772,000 air tickets were sold between April 5 and 9 alone.
Easter is one of the holidays most used to vacation in Venezuela and, after leaving the prevention measures due to the covid-19 pandemic —which are legally still in force—, 2023 seems to improve performance compared to other years, as evidenced by the 72,481 plane tickets sold in just eight days in April.
According to information shared by the Vice Minister of Air Transport, Freddy Borges, between March 31 and April 7, 986 air operations were registered that mobilized a total of 72,481 passengers, a figure close to the estimates of 80,000 that the authorities had.
Despite not having published the figures for 2022 to establish a comparison, the improvement is evident, especially due to the expansion of the air offer in the country and the reactivation of airlines and routes.
In fact, these numbers improve by 63% the 44,391 passengers registered in the previous holiday, the 2023 carnivals, which in themselves had seen an improvement of 24% compared to the 35,808 tickets sold in the 2022 carnivals, according to the President of the National Institute of Aeronautics (INAC), Juan Manuel Teixeira.
However, this figure of 72,481 passengers that Chavismo celebrates as a recovery success, pales in comparison with more stable economies even in the region. In the case of Colombia, the Civil Aeronautics prior to the mobilization of 772,000 citizens by air, only between April 5 and 9.
In the case of Argentina, only one company, Aerolíneas Argentina, deployed an operation for April 1 and 10 with an availability of 340,000 seats.

In the case of Venezuela, these little more than 70,000 passengers represent barely 0.25% of the population residing in Venezuela and only 0.8% of the total mobilization of holidaymakers for Easter reported by Delcy Rodríguez during the holiday from last year.
The Venezuelan minimum salary is just Bs 130, equivalent to $5.3 according to the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV). In contrast, a Caracas – Porlamar passage, one of the most popular among Venezuelans, can have a price in Conviasa between Bs 1,354.30 ($55) and Bs 1,628.38 ($66.5) one way and Bs 1,256.72 ($51.3) back. That is, more than $106 that are invested solely in the ticket to travel to Margarita. A sum that is equivalent to almost 19 minimum wages.
