Six rockets were fired this Sunday at Syria, the Israeli army announced this Sunday, after the recent launch of missiles from Syria south of the Golan Heights, annexed by Israel, in a spiral of violence in the Middle East.
“The artillery is currently attacking the area of Syria from which rockets were fired into Israeli territory,” the army said in a brief statement, which had previously reported that warning sirens had sounded in several locations.

The operation was launched “in response” to the gunfire, the military said, later saying it had also used a drone to target the aircraft from which the rockets were fired.
At least one rocket was intercepted by the Israeli anti-aircraft system and two fell on vacant land in the Golan, according to the army.
In 1967 Israel conquered and annexed part of the Syrian Golan Heights, a strategic region also bordering Lebanon. The Jewish state has recently intensified its incursions into Syria, targeting the positions of pro-Iranian groups, its number one enemy.
These launches came after the launch on Thursday of about thirty rockets from Lebanon, attributed to Palestinian organizations and which represented the largest escalation on the Israeli-Lebanese border since 2006.
The Israeli army responded to those missiles with bombardments in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza and in southern Lebanon.
This escalation of violence takes place in a week in which the raid on Wednesday by Israeli forces on the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem caused great commotion in the Arab world and in which there were also several attacks in Israel.
