Forced to change teams for sexual harassment

Charlie Corralforward of the Mexican women’s soccer team, is confident that the expulsion of Scarlett Camberos of Mexico due to sexist violence, make the country’s society reflect and end the attacks that women receive every day.

“(Violence against women) is something you don’t want to experience. I trust and I want to believe that things are going to change. Things that are not right happen for a reason. It is a great opportunity for us as a society to change, support each other and Let’s take care,” explained the Tuzas del Pachuca player at a press conference this Friday.

The Mexican international Camberos, who was one of the figures in the local league, left the ranks of the Águilas del América last March and signed for American Angel City FC for being harassed by a man since last year. Despite the fact that her club provided her with legal advice, Mexican law only allowed a 36-hour house arrest for the subject, who hacked into the soccer player’s social networks and even followed her to her house.

Corral, 31, asked her colleagues to follow the example of Camberos and denounce when they suffer any of the attacks that they experience in their day-to-day life in Mexico, a nation in which gender violence causes more than 10 femicides a day according to different organizations.

“As athletes we must be aware that this is everywhere and we must be careful, report something that is not right and protect each other,” added the former Atlético del Madrid soccer player and top scorer with Levante in the 2017-2018 season.
