MIAMI, United States. – The lifeless body of one of the four workers victims of a collapse in the chimney of the “Antonio Guiteras” Thermoelectric Power Plant, in Matanzas, was found after 7:00 p.m. this Friday.
“The allegedly lifeless body of Alexis Bernardo Labrada is rescued from the rubble, it will be examined by Legal Medicine experts for rigorous certification,” reported on Facebook the journalist José Miguel Solís, correspondent for Radio Rebelde in Matanzas. Shortly after he confirmed the death of the worker.
Due to the collapse of a partition in the chimney area of the “Antonio Guiteras” Thermoelectric Power Plant, which occurred around 2:30 pm this Friday, four workers were trapped under the rubble.
Shortly after the incident, two were rescued, according to reported the local channel TV Yumurí. Meanwhile, the room still remains under the rubble.
Solis specified on Facebook that the first of those rescued had a fractured left leg and had been transferred to the “Faustino Pérez” Provincial Hospital. Meanwhile, the director of the institution, Dr. Taymí Martínez Naranjo, told TV Yumurí that the patient also had a “mild head trauma.”
“Authorities from the Provincial Health Directorate confirm that Angel Dionis Pérez Montoya and Maikel López Navarro, the first two rescued, are evolving without danger to life,” assured Solis.
The workers were working in the lower part of the chimney in the area known as the “ashtray”, from where they extracted soot and carried out other cleaning tasks, when the partition, a wall seven meters high, collapsed.
The four workers belong to the Company Specialized in Repair and Maintenance of Chimneys and Work at Height, of the Ministry of Construction.
According to the official media cubadebateat the scene of the accident are the emergency service, the Fire Department and the authorities of the regime in the province, including the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Matanzas, Susely Morfa González.
