Current world champions and already qualified for the Paris 2024 Games, the Brazilian women’s sitting volleyball team once again beat Canada, in a repeat of the final of the modality’s World Cup last November, when the country won the unprecedented title. This Friday (7), the Brazilians dominated the match from start to finish, in the International Sitting Volleyball Challenge, held at the Paralympic Training Center (CTP), in São Paulo. Brazil, number 2 in the world – behind only the United States – triumphed by 3 sets to 0 (25/22, 29/27 and 25/22).

“We get a little tense, playing within our country. But we slowly loosened up our game and managed to win. We need to minimize mistakes so we don’t make them in the next competitions. Besides, these friendlies have been important to give opportunities to other girls play and for the coach [Fernando Guimarães] train other teams with us”, analyzed the player Janaína Petit, in a statement to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), shortly after the match.
The friendly duel between Brazil and Canada is part of the preparation of the two teams for the biggest competition of the modality in the Americas: the Panamerican Zonal Championship, which distributes places for the Paris Games. The tournament will take place from May 9 to 13, in the city of Edmonton (Canada). Currently placed third in the world ranking, the Canadian team is still seeking to qualify for the Paralympics. The Brazilians, on the other hand, guaranteed their spot in Paris 2024 by earning the last year’s World title in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with a victory by 3 sets to 1 over the Canadians
This Friday’s (7th) friendly was the third between the two teams since Sunday (2nd), when the teams began training together at the CTP. During the period, there were two training games: on Thursday (6), Brazil overcame Canada by 3 sets to 1. In the first match, on Wednesday (5), it was the Canadians who won by 3 sets to 2 .
