In the Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Gas, Creg, there are six commissioned experts. Position held by presidential appointment for a period of four years as a full-time position.

At the moment four of these positions are currently vacant, owned. There was recently a shock when the government of Gustavo Petro provisionally suspended the appointment of the expert commissioner Sara Vélez Cuartas, declared the permanent vacancy of the position held by Jorge Valencia, and accepted the resignation of commissioner Andrés Barreto.
To this is added the resignation of the expert commissioner Luis Julián Zuluaga, who for now has not withdrawn from the entity.
Given this scenario, the Executive issued two decrees. One, 477 of 2023, in which orders immediately Ángela María Sarmiento Forerowho is currently head of the Office of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as an expert commissioned by the Creg.

Sarmiento will hold the position without prejudice to the functions he has as holder and until the temporary vacancy lasts. She is a professional and has a master’s degree in electrical engineering and has more than 14 years of experience in the energy sector.
Along with this, under decree 476 of 2023, he was commissioned to Manuel Peña Suárez as expert commissioner of the Creg, who is currently head of the Office of the Mining and Energy Planning Unit, Upme.
He is an electrical engineer specialized in Economics and Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Systems.
