Every year at this time of Easter, the staging of the Via Sacra on Morro da Capelinha brings together thousands of Catholics from the Federal District. This event, held in Planaltina, is listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brasilia.
In 2023 it was no different: pilgrims began to concentrate on the site from an early age. Administrator Larissa Alves says it’s a time to be grateful. “For us, Good Friday is very important. It’s a way to come and give thanks for everyone’s life, for the family. It’s very special to be here”.
And this Good Friday, the Via Sacra of Morro da Capelinha was held in a special atmosphere. The festivity turned 50 years old. The event’s communication coordinator, Diogo José Pereira, explains what led this celebration to become a true tradition for Catholics in the Federal District. “The conclusion is very simple, It’s through faith, the faith of the people who watch us, the faith of the characters, of the people who work. And we’ve worked these 50 years thinking about these people”.

This year, the festival had the participation of 1,400 volunteers, including actors and work teams. The organization has not yet released data on the public, but the expectation was that around 100,000 faithful would participate in the Via Sacra at Morro da Capelinha.
