The Ministry of the Interior and the widow of the first corporal of the Carabineros Daniel Palma, Darline Vergara Troncoso, filed complaints for the official’s crime. A subject shot at the police force in the middle of a control carried out on Wednesday night in downtown Santiago.
According Thirdboth judicial actions were entered in parallel to the Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago, where they requested procedures such as the review of the bullet casings found at the site of the event, the taking of witnesses’ statements and dispatching orders to investigate the investigative departments of Carabinieri.

The complaint from the Ministry of the Interior was filed on the afternoon of April 6, before the Nain-Retamal Law was published in the Official Gazette.
According to the aforementioned media, it was detailed that “one or more unidentified subjects to date fired directly at the victim’s head, the Carabineros official Mr. Daniel Palma, generating a projectile impact on the victim’s face that caused his death hours later, after being transferred to the aforementioned hospital.
In the document, Interior warned that “the facts denounced altered public order, seriously impeding the regularity of police activities, also affecting fundamental rights as essential as the right to physical integrity and the life of the police officer who was the victim of the homicide.”
The Government invoked the crime of homicide against Carabineros in the act of duty, to the degree of consummation.
“Whoever kills a police officer who is in the exercise of his duties will be punished with the penalty of imprisonment in its maximum degree to qualified perpetual imprisonment,” states article 416 of the Code of Military Justice.
