MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban authorities detained this Thursday the teacher Alina Bárbara López Hernández when she demanded the release of the journalist and media collaborator The Young Cuba and The touchJorge Fernandez Era, arrested this April 6 and who a few weeks ago had been threatened by the political police for his critical analyzes of the Cuban reality.
Alina Bárbara López was demonstrating peacefully in Parque de la Libertad, in Matanzas, when she was violently detained by State Security. They also arrested her daughter, Cecilia Borroto López.
Adding to the denunciations of the event, the director for the Americas of Amnesty International, Érika Guevara Rosas, said from Twitter: “Professor Alina Bárbara Lopez was arrested in Cuba for protesting the detention of the writer Jorge Fernández Era. Díaz-Canel’s repression has the complicity of “friendly” governments that hypocritically politicize the suffering of the Cuban people. Freedom now!”

For its part, the International Institute of Artivism “Hannah Arendt” stated: “Today, a new outrage is added to the long list of crimes committed by the Cuban State-party against its citizens. Professor Alina Bárbara López Hernández was violently arrested, and her daughter Cecilia Borroto López physically mistreated, after having peacefully protested for the release of Jorge Fernández Era, who, in turn, had been detained hours before by State Security. We demand the release of him, just as we demand the release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Cuba, the cessation of repression, terror and fear.”
