OnCubaNews

Cuban Aviation announced this Wednesday that it will restart its operations between Havana and Buenos Aires, in Argentinastarting next May 2.

According to a statement from the island’s flag carrier, and reviewed by the agency Latin Press (PL)the connection between the two capitals will have a weekly frequency on Wednesdays.

The announced flights will depart from Terminal 3 of the José Martí International Airport, in the Cuban capital, and will have as their destination Terminal A of the Ministro Pisterini Airport, in Ezeiza.

Although the source does not provide further details about the operations, from the Cubana de Aviación website You can reserve the flight for May 2nd, in the round-trip mode, for a value of 1,152 US dollars.

The island’s airline also confirmed that it resumes a direct flight from Argentina to Cayo Coco, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, and that it would have Havana as its final destination, in order to complete an operation suspended due to the impact of the COVID pandemic. -19.

The news had been announced almost a month ago, following a visit by the president of the Cuban airline to Buenos Aires, where he met with the head of the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), Paola Tamburelli.

The board then confirmed Buenos Aires as the first South American destination to be resumed by Cubana de Aviación, which until now had only maintained one flight to Madrid with an Airbus A340-300 contracted under Wet-Leasing with registration EC-MQM, owned by the Spanish company Plus Ultra, according to a report from the website aviationline.com

The Cuban airline is greatly reduced, since it only has an ATR 42-500 with registration CU-T1240, which is being used for domestic connections. All of its aircraft, both narrow and wide-body, were withdrawn from service. Its last Ilyushin Il-96-300 was retired in August 2022, according to the same source.

“These flights will also multiply connectivity with other Caribbean countries with connections in Havana,” said the information released by ANAC at the time.

Before this announcement, the route between Havana and Buenos Aires had started to be covered by Aerolíneas Argentinas since July of last yearafter having canceled those operations in 2016.

This company, one of the main companies in the sector in South America, resumed this journey with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft capable of carrying 168 passengers on board.

Before the suspension of its flights to Havana, it flew twice a week with a stopover in Caracas and when it resumed the route it increased the number of weekly trips to Havana to three, with a stop in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
