Currently, half of the countries in the world (100 nationalities) are exempt from the requirement of short-stay visas in Colombia. In the case of long-stay visas, The country approves more than 90% of the requests, reported the Colombian Foreign Ministry.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s Internal Working Group on Visas and Immigration, in the last year (between March 2022 and March 2023) 58,159 visas have been approved and granted to foreign citizens for different activities in Colombia, long term.
Although Colombia, like all countries, sovereignly applies the ability to decide on the approval or denial of visas, the overall visa approval rate is 92.4%.

On the other hand, of the 58,159 visas granted, about 8,400 have been for US citizens. Being the citizenship with the highest number of approvals in this period. Of this number, in addition, 50% correspond to a visitor visa, 33% to a migrant visa, 11% to a resident visa and 4% to others.
Some visa applications are denied, but that does not amount to a denial; rather, it allows the user to complete the missing documentation and submit a new application.
