Fire in La Yeguada Forest Reserve has consumed more than 100 hectares

Judith Pena | April 6, 2023

More than 100 hectares of Pino Caribean have been affected by the fire that is still burning in the La Yeguada Forest Reserve in Calobre de Veraguas.

Julieta Fernández, director of the Ministry of the Environment, explained that entity personnel and park rangers in the company of the Ecological Police, in conjunction with the Meritorious Fire Department, are controlling it, however, the wind intensifies and the temperature of the day increases, increasing the focus of fire.

The Ministry of the Environment explained that the fire is creeping and affects Caribbean pine plantations and secondary undergrowth, which has high biomass and organic matter, which increases fuel in the fire sector.

At the start of the fire, the wind speed was at 12 km/h in a NW direction at dawn, the speed decreased allowing new maneuvers to mitigate the fire.
