Prosecutor's Office will charge a man who threatened President Petro

The Attorney General of Colombia, Francisco Barbosa, announced this Wednesday that the body he directs will charge the citizen Andres Mauricio Herrera Chingate for threatening President Gustavo Petro on social media.

A specialized team from the threat group of the National Directorate Against Human Rights Violations of the Prosecutor’s Office identified Herrera Chingate, who spread intimidation against the president in his networks.

“The aforementioned Mr. Herrera was summoned for questioning and accepted responsibility for the facts. In the next few days he will be charged with the crime of threats against human rights defenders and public servants ”added the prosecutor, who said that the procedure will be carried out on the date established by the Judiciary.

Petro, who has been threatened on several occasions in the past and has spent much of his life under official bodyguard protection, posted a video on Twitter in which a TikTok user can be heard making offensive and threatening comments against him.

In the video, the individual refers to the Colombian president as “garbage” who “does not deserve to be called human,” and declares that, given the opportunity, he would get him off the road and send him to the “valley of the lying down.”

Petro’s social media opponent, known as ‘Andrumau’, It has gained recognition for the messages it launches against the Government.

In his defense, he stated that the video published by the political activist Gener Úsuga would be “edited and manipulated”, and that such action is a common tactic in “Petrist wineries”.

Besides, This TikTok user stressed that, supposedly, he already presented the video of the moment in which he made such comments to the Prosecutor’s Office to clarify any doubts about the veracity of his statements.
