News Colombia.

When you are born there is an important denominator that defines people, for example, your name, and in Colombia, one of the trends is to register it according to personal tastes, beliefs or even public figures, and at Easter the biblical relationship does not lack.

In some cases this comes very connected with beliefs, some religious, others very extravagant.

There have been cases in which people end up with cartoon names, musical stars or, as in this case, with biblical names.

The Colombian Registry Office in this Easter season has revealed how many Colombians are registered with names from the Bible and with strong religious roots.

For example, according to the above, the name with the greatest data is that of María, has 4,349,030 namesakes in the nation.

Many characters have had Mary in the Bible, in general they have become compound names.

We can cite the cases of Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus, being part of the group of ‘the three Marys’, one of them accompanying Jesus on the day of his crucifixion.

Another of the most registered names has been that of Juan, which is a name that has 1,430,989 namesakes in Colombia.

John, in the Bible was the name of the man who predicted the arrival of Jesus, who also took charge of baptizing him.

This also happens to be a compound name in ColombiaAn example of this is Juan Esteban, Juan José, Juan Carlos, among others.

This is the list of the most used names:

Mary 4,349,030

John 1,430,989

lazarus 4614

Adam 4066

Jonah 2076

Zechariah 836

Aaron 143

Elizabeth 573,204

Sarah 57,542

Cupcake 23,070

Rachel 31,141

The list is a bit more extensive, but these are some.

«We see that these names are within our Colombian costumbrismo. In this sense, moms and dads find attractiveness in biblical names to register their sons or daughters,” said Rodrigo Peréz Monroy, national director of civil registration.
