Pre-salt fields break production record in February

Production on a shared basis increases with the entry of the Búzios Field

Production in the pre-salt broke a record in February this year, with 3.268 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), which correspond to 78.1% of Brazilian production, the highest percentage of participation ever recorded. The pre-salt is located in an area of ​​approximately 149,000 square kilometers (km2) in the territorial sea between the states of Santa Catarina and Espírito Santo.

According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. (ANP) 2.566 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 111.55 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas were produced through 136 wells. There was an increase of 3.2% in relation to the previous month and 15% in comparison with the same month of the previous year. It was also the highest production ever recorded in this environment, surpassing that of October 2022, when 3.142 million boe/d were produced.

In a statement, the ANP reported that in February domestic production was 4,183 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), of which 3,262 million bbl/d and 146,540 million m³/d. It was the highest total production ever recorded, surpassing that of October 2022, when 4.180 million boe/d were produced.

In oil, there was a reduction of 0.4% compared to the previous month and an increase of 11.8% compared to February 2022. In natural gas, production grew 2.3% compared to January 2023 and 10% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Natural gas

The use of natural gas was 97.4%. 49.40 million m³/d were made available to the market and the burning was 3.81 million m³/d. There was a reduction in burning of 8.1% compared to the previous month and an increase of 25.4% compared to February 2022.

Production

In the month, offshore fields produced 97.9% of oil and 87.1% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 92.25% of the total produced. Production came from 5,381 wells, 496 offshore and 4,885 onshore.

Biggest producer

The Tupi field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, was the largest oil and gas producer in February, registering 824.5 thousand bbl/d of oil and 38.81 million m³/d of natural gas. The facility with the highest production of oil and natural gas was the FPSO [unidade de processamento de petróleo e gás] Guanabara, which produced 178,776 thousand bbl/d of oil and 11.45 million m3/d of natural gas in the shared Mero deposit.
