Havana bakeries sell “low weight” bread to the population

MIAMI, United States. — Specialists and officials from the Provincial Food Industry Company (EPIA) in Havana detected irregularities in the production of bread in various establishments in the Cuban capital.

As announced by that entity in social networksOn Monday morning, officials toured several bakeries in the city and found that the bread delivered to the population is below the established parameters.

The EPIA indicated that the inspections showed that the bread made in state bakeries is considered “out of standard” or “low weight”, since it does not have the approved grammage, which is 80g.

“It is noted that the population’s bread was being sold with a grammage very similar to that of the released 50-gram bread that is being offered to the population,” the entity explained.

The EPIA reported that deficiencies were detected in seven “Elegante” bakeries, in the Cotorro municipality, “Bombero” (Diez de Octubre), “La Nueva” (Centro Habana), “La flor” (Regla), “Modelo” (Arroyo Naranjo) , “América” (Marianao) and “La Royal” (October 10).

The state entity reported that organizational and disciplinary measures will be taken with all those involved in the irregularities.

The report adds that the EPIA Technical Team “evaluates a strategy to change the format of the released bread from 50 grams to a new formulation and grammage of 80 grams, preventing situations like these from occurring” in the future.

The news was reported by the newspaper Havana Tribunewhere several forum members denounced the existence of irregularities in other bakeries in the province.

“Alamar is one of the municipalities where these offenses are recorded. You have to see the size of the bread released. The poor quality and the lack of grammage are noticeable at first glance. It would be very important to know the measures that were taken with the violators of the inspected bakeries”, commented Luis F. Ruiz.

Other Internet users claimed something similar occurs in the bakeries “El Crucero”, in the municipality of Playa, and “Lombillo”, in Plaza de la Revolución.
