Cuba: 363 repressive actions committed by the regime in March

MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights record 363 repressive actions committed by the island’s regime during the month of March; 23 more than those recorded in February. Of these actions, many against activists and journalists, 93 were some kind of arbitrary detention and 270 other abuses, the OCDH specified in its monthly report.

According to the NGO, based in Madrid, of the total repressive actions, 64 were in the framework of the electoral farce on March 26.

Among the people harassed through surveillance operations and home confinement were the activists Marthadela Tamayo and Osvaldo Navarro; journalists Enrique Díaz and Ángel Cuza; and Migdalia Rodríguez, Zaily Núñez, Bárbara Farrat and Orlando Ramírez, relatives of political prisoners.

The youtuber Hilda Núñez Díaz, known as “Hildina” and the activist Anniette González were among the most coerced people during the past month.

“Hildina” was arrested, questioned and fined on Thursday, March 9. Hildina is harassed and persecuted by the political police of the Cuban regime due to her publications on social networks, which show the serious economic and social crisis that the Island is experiencing.

While Anniette González has been detained since the 23rd in Camagüey for posting on networks some photos of her wrapped in the Cuban flag, as part of a campaign in favor of the release of the artist and political prisoner Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara.

The Observatory also verified abuses against 27 political prisoners; among them the lack of medical care for Maikel Puig and the beatings of Abel Lázaro Machado Conde, in the Quivicán prison, by the deputy head of the prison, Yuliesky Méndez Montero.

At the beginning of the current year, the Observatory, which continues to denounce the repression on the Island, presented the digital tool “24×7” so that Cuban citizens can report human rights violations, with the aim of documenting the situation with greater scope and precision.

In a press release, the NGO explained that complaints can be sent through the web https://247ocdh.comwhich has various channels such as an online form, WhatsApp chat and even a form in Word format, which must be downloaded, filled out and sent to email [email protected]
