Paraguayan will send 7 tons of medical supplies to Cuba as part of a humanitarian aid that responds to “the critical situation” that the Cuban population is going through to access medicines and medical supplies.
“The humanitarian aid consisting of a batch of seven tons of medical materials was managed in response to the request of the Caribbean country for the consequences of the fire that, in August last yearaffected the town of Matanzas, and the subsequent passage of Hurricane Ian, events that seriously affected essential infrastructure in that country,” the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry reported in a release.

The Foreign Ministry points out that the shipment of the donation will be made with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in Paraguay, which assumed the costs for the arrival of the lot in the city of Havana.
The fire at the Matanzas Supertanker base is considered the biggest industrial disaster in the history of Cuba and had serious economic, energy and environmental repercussions for the country. 17 people lost their lives due to that event.
For its part, the passage of Hurricane Ian, category three (out of five) on the Saffir-Simpson scale, caused considerable material damage in the west as it passed through the island.

The Paraguayan Foreign Ministry explained that “the donated supplies do not affect the needs of the Paraguayan population”, since, according to the note, “they are products with sufficient availability by the Ministry of Health, corresponding to remnants of the preparing for the COVID-19 pandemic from last year”.
“This gesture of international solidarity cements the bonds of friendship that unite the peoples of Paraguay and Cuba, and contributes to reinforcing the role of our country as a provider of international cooperation,” added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay.
