More than seven hours after the beginning of their discussion, the Senate Chamber generally approved the Naín-Retamal Law, a measure that aggravates the penalties for crimes committed against the police and that establishes a “privileged legitimate defense” towards the uniformed officers.
Specifically, the Upper House endorsed the project with 40 votes in favor, 5 against and no abstentions. Among those who voted against the initiative are senators Esteban Velásquez (FRVS), Daniel Núñez (PC), Fabiola Campillai (IND), Claudia Pascual (PC) and Juan Ignacio Latorre (RD).
After the approval in general, the Chamber of the Senate began the discussion in particular of each one of the indications presented to the project, which will extend until the project is fully dispatched.
