Dinorah Figuera, president of the 2015 National Assembly, clarified that the position of the representative in the US, Fernando Blassi, is not that of the opposition parliament. She did acknowledge that they make efforts to establish consensus within that legislative structure, respecting political differences.

The president of the National Assembly elected in 2015 (AN 2015), Dinorah Figuera, used her social networks to respond to the statements made by the representative to the United States of that instance, Fernando Blasi, who in an interview asked the United States to relax the sanctions.

Figuera stressed that Blasi’s statements were made in a personal capacity and do not reflect the position of the 2015 National Assembly. However, he stated that plurality and consensus converge in the opposition parliament, elements that are essential in his opinion to move forward.

In this sense, he stated that efforts are being made to reach agreements even with the differences that they may have in order to benefit Venezuelans.

Figuera’s messages on Twitter seek to respond to the statements offered by the new representative of the Venezuelan opposition in the United States, fernando blasiwho urged the Biden administration to relax crippling oil sanctions against the government of Nicolás Maduro or risk the socialist country becoming another Cuba with Washington as a scapegoat for rising authoritarianism and economic hardship.

However, Blasi cautioned that he is not speaking on behalf of the opposition Unity Platform as a whole. He acknowledged that many of his allies in the opposition coalition bristled at the idea of rewarding Maduro with no initial commitments to level the playing field before next year’s presidential election.

That led to Department of State of the United States (USA) to resume custody of six Venezuelan diplomatic headquarters that surrendered to Guaidó, including those in Washington and New York, after considering that Venezuela was left without diplomats recognized by Washington. The Department also indicated that it assumes the protection and preservation of the residence of the permanent representative of Venezuela before the Organization of American States (OAS).

The information was released through an official statement from the federal agency. “The Department of State of the United States assumed control of the consular headquarters and the headquarters of the Venezuelan embassies in Washington and New York,” said the letter that was released on Friday, March 31.
