The senator and president of Renovación Nacional, Francisco Chahuanand the deputy Jose Miguel Castro (RN), a member of the Citizen Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, visited La Moneda this morning to urge the Government to advance the Nain-Retamal Law, a project that seeks to provide more powers to the Carabineros and is part of the security agenda that is being worked on in Congress.
Chahuán called not to weaken the initiative presented by several parliamentarians from his conglomerate, after the Executive entered a series of indications to the project that is about to be voted on. “This speaks to whether or not the government has pants to understand that public safety is the number one urgency for Chileans,” he said.

Regarding this, the parliamentarian added that “what cannot happen is that the indications route is used to slow down the project, the project must be removed now”, for which he expressed that they hope that the law will be dispatched this week. “Today the RN senators are going to meet to analyze the indications that are presented today,” he informed.
Along the same lines, the senator pointed out that the priority should be focused on “strengthening the powers and the presumption of innocence that a Carabineros officer, a PDI officer or a Gendarmerie officer can and should have.”
The RN helmsman also announced that this week they will visit the relatives of the carabineros Carlos Retamal and Eugenio Naínand from the carabinera Rita Olivares. “We want to call for the government to stand up and empathize with the victims,” added Chahuán.
