Cuban mountaineer Yandy Núñez will attempt to climb Everest

MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Yandy Nunez Martinez He will try to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain on the planet.

This Monday Núñez Martínez, resident in Iceland, shared images next to his luggage and announced: “Here I go my people. Again with everything ready for my second attempt to climb Mount Everest and see my dream coming, a reality that I long for so much”.

To achieve it, would be the first Cuban that reaches the top of this mountain that has an altitude of 8,848 meters above sea level; located on the Asian continent, in the Himalayas.

Subsequently He shared photographs at the airport in Iceland, from where he would depart for Nepal, and from there begin the ascent.

“I am going in search of conquering my dream again. My second attempt to crown the top of the world”, reiterated the young man, a native of the town of Calabazar, in Havana.

“Long live free Cuba,” he also noted in his publication.

In 2021, the climber was about to reach the top of Everest, but could not finish the tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After contracting the coronavirus and having to abandon his career, he assured that he would try again, that he would not give up his dream.

Yandy Núñez, who left Cuba in 2015, was a tour guide on the island. In Iceland, where he discovered his passion for mountaineering, he conducts guided tours for visitors who share his hobby.

At the end of 2019, the mountaineer managed to reach the top of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas at 6,962 meters. He had previously reached the Pico de Orizaba, the highest mountain in Mexico. He is also the first Cuban to climb Mount Elbrús, the highest peak in Russia and Europe, with an altitude of 5,642 meters above sea level.
