Gerónimo Sims: “You can’t do many songs about personal life when you’re so young”

Geronimo Sims is 17 years old. At that age, many boys are just thinking about what they are going to do with their lives, while this man from Tarijá is focused on his personal project that he has been outlining for years.

It’s one of the Bolivian artists with more projection, especially since November 2022, when he signed with the record company Sony Music.

For Gerónimo, who lives in Buenos Aires, that dream begins to come true with just two songs (Tú y yo and Me haces mal) that he has put up for public consideration and that have more than 2,300,000 views on YouTube, in addition to leading the rankings of radio stations in Bolivia.

In this days his third theme will be out. It will be a love story, a romantic pop, “with a surprise, of which you can already hear a preview on Gerónimo’s TikTok ”, according to his manager, Gabriel Feldman.

In the middle of the dizzying rhythmor of his days, Gerónimo pauses to tell us how he digests what he is experiencing.

When did Gerónimo Sims’ passion for music begin?

I don’t remember a time when I didn’t play music in my house in my childhood. At the age of four I already wrote a song. I always liked music, it was my passion and since I was a child I felt that it was my vocation. The arts, like theater and painting, came very easily to me, but music was the main thing; When it came time to decide what I wanted to do, it was already clear to me.

What was the path to sign Sony Music?

I spent six months with a management agency in Mexico. But I was more focused on the influencer theme and I was using the networks solely in order to have an audience that listens to my music, being an influencer is not my thing, it is not my area. Fortunately, I met Gabriel Feldman, who became my manager, with whom we set the goal of signing with a major label. We didn’t expect it to be so soon, but after two months we were already traveling to Buenos Aires to sign with Sony Music. It was crazy, but it was crazy that we knew was going to happen at any moment.

How do you organize the creative process?

At the same time that I write my songs I write the script for my videos, when I am writing a song I always think about the images. The artistic theme is something very intimate and I am satisfied to see that what I was thinking ends up being reflected in something material.

How would you define your artistic style?

I don’t have a defined genre, I like to listen to all kinds of music, it’s always been like that and I reflect that in my songs. Tú y yo is softer pop, but when we decided to do Me haces mal, I was listening to a lot of bachata. So I also have ballads, reggaeton, all the music that one can imagine. I don’t want to pigeonhole myself in a specific genre. My project is very versatile, I like to be open to everything, from the musical to the visual.

What inspires a 17-year-old boy when writing a song?

You can’t do many songs about personal life when you’re so young. I like to tell a story even if it is not my own story. You do me wrong is born from something I saw at a party, that led me to think about the story of a person. That is to say, they are not songs that talk about me, but about a situation with which I would like people to feel identified.

Are you interested in people’s opinion about your music?

Of course, but it’s not that I decide to do something based on what the comments on the networks say, I don’t let myself be guided by that, because I trust a lot in what I do. As long as I like what I’m doing I’m sure there will be many other people who will also like it. There is an audience for everything, there is a market for everything.
