US declared state of emergency in Arkansas after tornado

A strong tornado hit the US state of Arkansas on Friday and caused more than 88,000 people to lose access to electricity, according to data from the PowerOutage.us website, which monitors this service.

In several images and videos published on social networks you can see the phenomenon, which has uprooted trees and roofs in its path.

More than 20 patients are being treated at two hospitals in the Arkansas capital, Little Rock, according to The Washington Post. Of these, five are in critical condition.

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, Jr., confirmed that at least 24 people are hospitalized in the city, although no deaths have been reported so far.

Colombian government admits that negotiations with the ELN are in crisis

The Colombian government admitted that the peace negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN) are in crisis and asked that guerrilla to say if it is using the talks to strengthen itself or if it has a real desire to put an end to the armed conflict.

The government’s chief negotiator, Otty Patiño, assured that there is “great questioning” about whether “the ELN is using the talks to strengthen itself in its territories, as an organization, or if, on the contrary, its stay at the table means a real vocation of peace”.

Patiño participated in a meeting called by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, to evaluate the situation of the peace negotiations after the attack perpetrated last Wednesday by the guerrillas in the department of Norte de Santander that left nine soldiers dead and nine wounded.

Despite this, the Government does not intend to get up from the negotiating table, which has already been held for two rounds, one in Caracas and another in Mexico City, and the third will take place after Easter in Havana.

Ecuadorian businessman allegedly involved in corruption was assassinated

The businessman Rubén Cherres, one of those involved in the alleged corruption plot in public companies that originated the impeachment trial against the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, was found this Friday dead and with apparent signs of violence in a building along with other three people.

The identity of Cherres, a character close to the ruling party, was confirmed by the Ecuadorian National Police after analyzing the fingerprints of the bodies found in a house in the canton (municipality) of Punta Blanca, in the coastal province of Santa Elena.

Both the body of Cherres, 63, and that of the other three people were found handcuffed and with bullet wounds and showed signs of torture.

Reporters Without Borders criticizes Twitter certification management

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) criticized this Saturday the new management model of Twitter’s blue brand, considering that it generates “confusion between certification and subscriptions” and that it will favor disinformation.

The organization also accused the owner of the social network, Elon Musk, of creating more confusion with his contradictory announcements in recent weeks about how that blue brand will work as of this Saturday.

Musk “pressures users to subscribe to Twitter Blue under the threat of losing their blue brand. The only problem Elon Musk is trying to solve with this policy is Twitter’s finances, which have gotten much worse since he took control,” Vincent Berthtier, RSF’s head of technologies, said in a statement.

In addition, RSF considers that the new Twitter system will open “a golden bridge” for the activity of accounts dedicated to disinformation.

Pope Francis will celebrate Mass “In Coena Domini” on Holy Thursday

Pope Francis will preside over Vatican Holy Week and will celebrate the Mass “In Coena Domini” on Holy Thursday in the Casa del Marmo juvenile prison in Rome, after leaving the hospital today where he has been admitted for bronchitis.

Francisco, 86, was discharged this Saturday from the Gemelli hospital in Rome where he had been admitted since last Wednesday due to bronchitis, cured with antibiotics.

The Pope wanted to be present at the Holy Week rites and tomorrow he will preside over Palm Sunday in Saint Peter’s Square, although the liturgy will be officiated from the altar by the Argentine Cardinal Leonardo Sandri.

This is how it will be during all the commemorations: the pope will preside over the ceremonies but it will be a cardinal who will officiate (something that was already happening because knee problems prevent him from standing for long periods of time and he must use a cane or wheelchair).
