The Cuban swimmer Elisbet Gámez reached this Friday a gold medal at the opening of the Santo Domingo Swimming Open 2023 that takes place until tomorrow in the Dominican Republic.
Gámez, 26, also improved and, for the second time in March, the national record for the 100-meter freestyle, by setting a time of 55:32 seconds, according to report from the sports portal Hit.

Another Cuban, Andrea Becali, got the bronze medal with a time of 56.76, which confirms her progress in this style as well. aim Hit that the silver went to the Colombian Karen Durango, who stopped the clocks in 55.93.
Gámez had erased the 55.51, in his possession since 2018, during the Malaysian Open held a few weeks ago, when he managed to mark 55.40 seconds.

Fermín Rodríguez from Havana took fifth place in the 50 backstroke (27.51), a final in which Johnatan Pérez from Granma finished seventh (27.80). Julio Calero from Sancti Spiritus was eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.29).

350 athletes from 12 countries participate in the Santo Domingo Swimming Open. The event is a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games, and for the 2024 Olympic Games.
