Havana in search of Chinese tourism

La Habana, Turismo, chino, Cuba

MADRID, Spain.- In the midst of the crisis that the tourism sector is going through in Cuba, the regime tries to promote the island as a tourist destination in different markets.

In this regard, the Havanatur International Group signed a “memorandum of understanding” this week with the Chinese tour operator Tumei International Travel.

The document, signed in Havana, “has the purpose of increasing the arrival of tourists to Cuba,” the newspaper noted. Granma.

During the signing ceremony, according to the official media, Rodrigo Wen, deputy general manager of that agency focused on tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean, pointed out that “Cuba is a priority destination on its agenda, and it is located in the preference of the customers”.

For her part, María del Carmen Orellana, Cuban First Deputy Minister of Tourism, assured that “the conditions are created for Chinese citizens to feel Cuba as their second homeland during their stay.”

At the meeting, the “Cuba Única” campaign was presented, with which the Tourism authorities in Cuba try to show the Island as a reliable and safe destination.

The Chinese delegation visited Havana, Varadero, Cienfuegos and Trinidad, to later promote them in the Asian country.

Already last October, the Cuban government had disseminated the advertising identity “Cuba Única” during the Hola Mundo Mua event, held in Shanghai.

The “Cuba Única” campaign was presented for the first time at the FitCuba-2022 International Tourism Fair, last May.

By 2023, the Cuban government expects to receive 3.5 million tourists, although the figures so far this year are not very encouraging for the regime to meet “its goal.”

It is worth noting that in 2022, 1,014,087 foreigners arrived in Cuba, a figure much lower than the 2.5 million that the Government intended.

During the past year, Canada remained the first issuing market of tourists to the country; followed by Russia until the start of the invasion of Ukraine. While in terms of “the Cuban community abroad, the recovery was 53 percent.”
