Some members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) are in Sucre and since Wednesday morning they have been following a schedule of visits that began in the Governorate of Chuquisaca with the headline Damián Condori, at 9:00; then they visited the State Attorney General, Juan Lanchipa, at 10:15. The commissioners meet with the magistrates of the TSJ from 11:20; and then they will visit the magistrates of the TCP, at 1:00 p.m., and at the end of this half day with a visit to the magistrates of the Agro-environmental Court.
During the meeting in the Governor’s Office, Condori highlighted the progress in terms of regulations for the protection of the rights of women and indigenous peoples, but asserted that the strengthening of democracy has stalled and the justice system.
Before the commissioners, he said that he questioned the lack of independence of the State bodies and that they are subject to the government party.
“We have made known the lack of full independence of state bodiesat this moment we are witnessing that there is no full independence of the powers of the State”, Condori commented.
“Since the beginning of the selection process of the candidates for the Judicial Branch and TCP, there is no independence, the same happens with the Attorney General, who are appointed by a Legislative Assembly dominated by a political party,” he added.
