PDI carried out massive control of foreigners in Arica: 304 people denounced for illegally entering the country

The PDI Investigative Police carried out a massive control operation aimed at the foreign population in Arica, which culminated in the inspection of 620 people, of which 304 were reported, mostly, for entering the country illegally.

“As a region, we have been doing these inspections with the Migration and International Police Headquarters for quite some time; as an example of that, in 2020 we had 2,500 complaints, in 2021 we ended with 6,600 and this year, we have already had more than a thousand complaints,” said the regional chief, prefect inspector Claudia Domínguez.

More than 200 detectives participated in the procedure and it lasted two days, Friday and Saturday. It was carried out in various sectors, such as Rodoviario and Cerro Chuño. In total there were 620 audited in the control and 43 of these had police records. Of the 304 denounced, 284 correspond to people who entered the country clandestinely, for which they were issued a foreign offender card, being subject to a signature regime and reported to the administrative authority.

In addition, in the process there were also four detainees: two of Venezuelan nationality for assaulting police officers, a Chilean for drug micro-trafficking and an Ecuadorian for maintaining a pending arrest warrant.
