PJ asks the president to convene “urgently” the Council of State due to political crisis

Elvia Barrios, owner of the Power of attorney, requested this Monday President Pedro Castillo to convene a session of the Council of State to deal with the current political crisis of the Government.

The document, to which RPP had access, sent to the Head of State, indicates that this meeting will contribute to the search for consensual measures in situations of emergency or instability in the country, in order to contribute, through joint dialogue, to unify efforts and adopt commitments on public policies.

“The purpose of this is to request that, in his capacity as President of the Republic and President of the Council of State, convene an emergency meeting of this instance which exists, precisely, to allow the highest representatives of the Powers of the State and of the constitutionally autonomous bodies to contribute in the search for consensual measures in emergency situations”the document reads.

“Mr. president, in the current circumstances in which our country is fragmented, we cannot remain oblivious to this crisis, which is why we require an open dialogue between the institutionswhere we can contribute and agree on actions to strengthen social peace, as well as our democratic system”add the writing.

Barrios’ request comes in the midst of a new political crisis due to the departure of Héctor Valer from the presidency of the Council of Ministers, a few days after taking office, because he had complaints of family violence.

On Friday, the head of state, Pedro Castillo, announced that he will carry out a new reconformation of his Cabinet, but only Valer Pinto’s departure from the position of president of the Council of Ministers has been confirmed. Nor has it been reported on the swearing-in date of the new ministerial team.

The heads of the three powers of the state participate in the sessions of the Council of State, as well as representatives of autonomous bodies such as the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman’s Office, the National Board of Justice, the Public Ministry, the National Elections Jury and the Comptroller General of the Republic. Since the president took office, no session has been held.
