Havana Cuba. – From the most rigorous Combinado del Este prison in Havana, the political prisoner and human rights activist Yuri Almenares González denounced the harassment and repression against him.

Almenares González, who is a prisoner in building 1, announced through a brief telephone call that since February 8 two prisoners collaborating with the prison authorities (“disciplines”), named Nelson Ruiz Serrano, alias Risi, and Yunieski Colás Neyra, alias Guajiro, stand behind him when he talks on the phone to control what he says and to prevent him from dialing certain numbers.

They also do not let him speak for more than three minutes, which is the time established for calls from inmates. This and other violations, according to their own admission, are carried out by order of the head of the building, Major Leonelvis Jardi Baró.

In the same way, he added that one of the officers of the Operational Guard has continued to apply repressive tactics against him. Likewise, he expressed that he has suffered mistreatment from another prisoner named José Luis Sánchez Tito, also a collaborator of State Security.

Almenares González highlighted that on February 8 he was attacked by Yunieski Colás Neyra, who for no reason punched him in the stomach area that left him lying on the ground gasping for breath. The political prisoner indicated that although he reported the attack to the prison authorities, the aggressor was not subjected to the usual disciplinary measure, which in this case would be the punishment cell.

After more than two years in pretrial detention, Yuri Almenares González was sentenced to seven years in prison for the alleged crime of contempt for the figure of the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. This reprisal responds to several publications made by the activist on his social networks, in which he criticized the deficient work of the Cuban leaders and the crisis that the Island is suffering, among other dissimilar problems that currently afflict Cuban society.

The activist emphasized that human rights are incessantly violated in the Combinado del Este, despite what is stated in the new Cuban Constitution.
