Young Colombians want to have fewer children

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) published the vital statistics of births and deaths for the entire year 2022 and 2023 with a cutoff at the end of January.

(The companies that are pushing young people to extreme burnout.)

In the analysis of the figures referring to births, it was found as revealing data that “During the last 10 years, a decreasing behavior has been observed in the number of births in Colombia.”

The data allow us to see that the decrease in 2022 is the most marked, with a reduction of -7.7% compared to 2021, which makes it a “historic figure”depending on the entity.

So, in the year 2022, 569,311 babies were born, while in 2021, 616,914 infants were born.

(Why millennials and centennials prefer to be freelancers).

In this sense, it was found that there are fewer young parents. That is to say, mothers aged 30-34, after those aged 20-24 and 25-29are the ones that report the highest participation in total births, with 18.4%, which corresponds to 26,138 live births.

Another striking fact is that even the births of immigrant mothers from Venezuela also decreased compared to the last year. The figure went from 10.9% in 2021 to 8.2% in 2022.
