According to statistical data released this Monday (27) by the São Paulo State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP), there were 11 cases of robbery in February this year, against 17 in the same month in 2021. This was the lowest number of robbery cases recorded. for a month of February in the last 22 years. The peak occurred between 2002 and 2003, when 45 cases of robbery were registered.

As for homicides, 223 cases were registered last month, with a drop of 4.3% compared to last year. While homicides and robberies dropped in February, rape records rose again. In February alone, 1,110 cases of sexual crimes were reported, which represented an increase of 19.2% compared to February last year. According to the secretariat, 85% of reported cases of rape occurred indoors.

Other crimes that also increased in February were robberies and thefts in general. Thefts went from 18,152 records last year to 18,418 this year. Thefts increased more, around 10.7%, going from 39,765 occurrences to 44,001.

In January and February of this year, the number of thefts in the state totaled 91,456 records.
