The Antecedent Employment Indicator (Iaemp), measured by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), fell by 5.3 points from December 2021 to January 2022. It was the third consecutive decline. The business trend in the next six months and the hiring intentions in the next three months of the service sector also had significant setbacks, which contributed with -1 and -0.9 points, respectively.

“The sharpest worsening at the beginning of 2022 stems from the combination of the economic slowdown that started in the fourth quarter with the outbreak of Omicron and Influenza, which mainly affects the service sector, which is the largest employer, making it difficult to see a change in the short term. in the course of the indicator”, said researcher Rodolpho Tobler, in a note released by FGV.
