This year 24 years have passed since a tragic event that put the Paraguayan nation in mourning and left a disastrous precedent in democratic history: the so-called “Paraguayan March”where seven young people lost their lives during public demonstrations.
As another anniversary of this fateful event is remembered, a small group of people -among mothers of the victims and some relatives- went to the Plaza de Armas this Sunday, place where the violent repression took place in that March of 1999.

To everyone’s surprise, the square -which was fenced a few months ago by the Municipality of Asunción- was closed to the publicwith a padlock that prevented its access to visitors.
The relatives of the martyrs of the Paraguayan March They regretted that said public space has not been enabled to carry out an act of commemoration or at least a moment of prayer for the fallen, just as they do every year.

In addition, they blamed the Asuncion commune for preventing them from accessing the place and not having foreseen its opening on this daytaking into account that it is already a tradition that they come on this date for acts of remembrance and memory.
