Cassandra Theater Festival in Miami concludes this Sunday

MADRID, Spain.- The 7th edition of the Casandra International Festival, based in Miami, comes to an end this Sunday, after more than a week of hosting productions from various countries.

The closing ceremony will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Cubaocho Museum & Performing Arts Center, located in the heart of Little Havana, with the participation of the Spanish vocal group Demode Cuartet.

The Casandra International Festival, the only theatrical event dedicated to women in the city of Miami, was dedicated this year to the Cuban actress, educator and theater director Nelda Castillo, who since 1996 has directed the group El Ciervo Encantado.

“We recognize Nelda, director of the group El Ciervo Encantado de Cuba, because her work has great strength with everything that is happening on the island,” Lilliam Vega, founder of the festival, told the Spanish news agency EFE.

Companies from Canada, Cuba, Colombia, Spain, Portugal and the United States participated in this edition, which performed at the Sandrell Rivers Theater, American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, Koubek Center, Artefactus Cultural Project and Havanafama Theatrical Company.

Among the most acclaimed performances by the public was The last flight of Matías Pérez. This play, chosen for the opening of the event, was written by the Cuban playwright Raquel Carrió and starred Susana Perez, Jorge Luis González and Ivanesa Cabrera, among others. It was directed by Lilliam Vega.

Black Legends, 90 Days in Miami, The Last Maids and the flying crab They were other works that lovers of tables could enjoy.

The Cassandra International Festival was created in 2017 by the company wit theaterfounded in 2011 by actress and theater director Lilliam Vega, together with Rocío Carmona and Loipa Alonso.
