Investigation in Mexico of the death of Cuban journalist Héctor Reyes

Héctor-Reyes

Mexico City, Mexico.-The news of the death of the Cuban journalist Hector Reyes Reyes shocked friends and acquaintances of the victim last week. The lifeless body of the 43-year-old reporter was found on March 17 in Mexico.

As published Telemundo, the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that homicide detectives are investigating the case, but “declined to provide details, citing ongoing investigations. He indicated that he awaits the results of an autopsy to determine the specific cause of death,” the outlet explained.

Several sources have confirmed that his body showed signs of violence that rule out a natural death. The main suspects are two men that Héctor hosted in his house.

His attackers apparently stole valuables from the journalist after killing him. The house was missing several new electrical appliances, a cell phone, and his old computer from 2006. This was of great value to the victim because in it he kept all his life notes and various books in progress.

“I hope that we can recover his laptop because there he had all his chronicles, stories and stories. This was the most important thing in his life, ”said one of the sources consulted by Telemundo.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Mexican capital indicated that it has interviewed possible witnesses and has analyzed videos from public and private security cameras to clarify the death of Reyes.

His family is currently trying to give him a proper burial either in Cuba or Mexico, but since he has no family in Aztec land that can claim his body, the protocol is to bury him in a common grave.

His aunt Martha Omara Reyes, 75, who after the news went to take care of Héctor Reyes’ sick mother and tell her about the tragedy, commented to the aforementioned outlet that a group of her nephew’s friends in Cuba want to cooperate to bring his body from back home or at least avoid being buried in a common grave as protocols dictate.

Hector had traveled about ten countries as a backpacker in the most unexpected ways and without legal status. He came to Mexico with the intention of crossing into the United States and going on a fishing boat to Alaska. That was his last dream.
