Government appoints Carlos Eduardo García as ambassador to the Vatican

The Government of Nicolás Maduro appointed the diplomat Carlos Eduardo García as the country’s new ambassador to the Vatican

The government of Nicolas Maduro appointed diplomat Carlos Eduardo García as the country’s new ambassador to the Vatican.

«Venezuela appoints the diplomat Carlos Eduardo García García as the new Head of Mission to the Holy See. With our experience and commitment, we will continue advancing in the strengthening of our international relations through Bolivarian peace diplomacy,” the Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday, March 23.

The new ambassador to the Holy See replaces Ian Carlos Torres Parra. In November 2022, Maduro met with Monsignor Édgar Peña; a Venezuelan religious, who holds the position of substitute for General Affairs of the Vatican Secretariat of State.

Regarding that appointment, Maduro said that Peña is “a son of Venezuela in the Holy See, who came to bring us the blessings of God and Pope Francis, who has always been aware of our country.”

In December of last year, Pope Francis received Ian Carlos Torres Parra at the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican, on the occasion of the presentation of his Letters of Credence as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Holy See.

The Venezuelan Ambassador also held a formal meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, number two in the Vatican. During the day, Torres Parra was accompanied by his wife and daughter, as well as diplomatic personnel accredited to that Mission.
