Alberto Fernández left China and arrives in Barbados to complete his international tour

Fernández arrives this Monday in Bridgetown, the capital of the Caribbean island of Barbados.

President Alberto Fernández ended his tour of the People’s Republic of China on Sunday and left for Madrid, where he made a stopover to continue on to Barbados, the last destination of his presidential tour, which took him first to Russia.

President Alberto Fernández and his entourage will arrive this Monday at 3:00 p.m. (Argentine time) in the city of Bridgetown, Barbados, the final point of his tour.

In that Caribbean country, he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Mia Mottley, one of the leading figures in discussions on climate change and with a growing influence on a global level, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations, in the same way that it did on the other two occasions.

.“The Caribbean is having a very hard time with climate change. It is a very tragic issue and I want my management as president of CELAC to pay particular attention because incredible things are happening in terms of climate. You have to listen to what the prime minister of Barbados has to say because it is really shocking,” Fernández said a few days ago when explaining the reason for the trip.

“The water is covering the islands and making them disappear. Hurricanes appear more frequently and entire populations are worn. As Latin American brothers who are from the Caribbean, we want to collaborate so that they overcome this problem and solve it,” added the Argentine head of state. .

Located in the Lesser Antilles, the island became independent from the United Kingdom in 1968 and, as of November 2021, abandoned the monarchy and became the youngest Parliamentary Republic in the world.

As part of the Barbados Labor Party, Mottley was appointed Prime Minister in 2018 after winning the general election with 74 percent of the vote.

With a great political career in different State agencies, she was the first woman in the country’s history to hold the position of Prime Minister.

Last week, Mottley won by a wide margin the elections that guaranteed his continuity.

Within the framework of the strategy of international reciprocity and solidarity aimed at equitable access to vaccines to reduce the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in the region, on December 1 the Argentina sent 42,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Of that batch, 30,000 were sent to Barbados

On his Tuesday agenda, Alberto Fernández will meet with Prime Minister Mottley in the morning, and then hold a meeting precisely with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, to discuss various issues.

That same day, the president’s return to Argentina is scheduled, after his tour of Russia, China and Barbados.
