Cuban Damián Arce debuts with victory in professional boxing

OnCubaNews

The Cuban Damián Arce had a graceful debut in the circuits of professional boxing by beating the Argentine Sebastián Castillo this Tuesday in a fight held at the mythical Luna Park in Buenos Aires.

The fighter outperformed his rival during the agreed six rounds in this duel in the 118-pound division, and received the unanimous verdict of the judges, according to a note published by the sports portal Hit.

As a “clear victory” qualified the specialized television station ESPN, quoted by the outlet, which also reviews the voting on the judges’ cards: 59-53, 60-52 and 60-52.

Arce’s victory becomes more relevant considering the professional experience of his opponent, who had seven wins, one setback and one draw in his professional boxing career.

With the recent outcome, the Domadores de Cuba franchise now exhibits a balance of 21 victories and a single setback, this conceded by Yosvany Veitía in a split decision that favored the Mexican Daniel Ramírez in a lawsuit held last mid-December in Ciudad Juárez.

This same month, the Tamers had won their first professional title through Lázaro Álvarez from Pinar del Río, executioner of the Venezuelan Willmank Canónico in a billboard hosted by the city of Guanajuato.

The three-time world champion was favored by scores 97-93, 96-94 and 96-94 in the agreed ten rounds. That outcome allowed him to take over the lightweight belt of the Central American and Caribbean Boxing Federation (FECARBOX).

The Cuban boxers returned to the professional arena in May 2022 at the hands of the Mexican promotion company Golden Ring, after it signed a representation contract with the island’s Federation.

Since then, the island’s fighters have made commitments in billboards held in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina and Bolivia, but most against rivals that do not occupy the top positions in the ranking of the main associations.
