Four people were apprehended by units of the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), after 1,537 packages of alleged illicit substances were seized from them, and a speedboat was confiscated from them in an operation carried out north of Isla Colón in Bocas del Toro.
According to Deputy Commissioner Daniel Rodríguez, head of the second Aeronaval zone, this precaution was carried out with the maritime authorities of Costa Rica and with air support from the United States.
He said that during the operation, the crew members of the boat, upon hearing the voice to stop and noticing the presence of the aircraft, began evasive maneuvers to flee, while throwing the bags with the alleged illegal substance into the sea, however they were captured.
After coordination with the Bocas del Toro Drug Prosecutor’s Office, the vessel, crew members and alleged illegal activity were transferred to the Chiriquí Grande Naval Air Station.
So far in 2023, the National Aeronaval Service has carried out 27 operations, achieving the total confiscation of 15, 107 packages of illegal substances.
