The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, chaired a working meeting with the national leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), in which the first stage of this new offensive against corruption was evaluated.
In his statements, he stated that a restructuring at the highest level has already begun in the country’s oil industry and in the courts of the Republic. The head of state indicated that from the national leadership of the PSUV, a “vertical, frontal, absolute position against corruption” has been assumed.
He reported that since last October investigations into these “corruption mafias” have been underway, entrenched in Petróleos de Venezuela SA, with ramifications in private companies and some officials who volunteered to commit these crimes.
In this sense, Maduro commented that he himself has been in charge of the investigations in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office and the Anti-Corruption Police, with which it was possible to “dismember these corruption mafias that have become entrenched in the apparatus.” economy of Venezuela.
The president explained that in addition to these “mafias that embedded themselves in PDVSA and Sunacrip,” a procedure was also initiated to act against the sale of judgments to favor drug traffickers by high-ranking judges.
Tarek El Aissami resigns
President Nicolás Maduro said that he received the resignation of the until then Minister of Oil, Tarek El Aissami, who made his decision public through social networks. The president commented that the official is willing to cooperate in all investigations.
He added that trusting in the commitment to the revolution that he has shown, he accepted his resignation so as not to affect the course of the investigations and thanked him for his full collaboration in getting to the bottom of the situation.
Maduro defined this moment as a painful, hard episode, but necessary for the “rebirth of the ethical revolution”, for which he asked for the support of the people at this stage. “You have to be united to win this battle against corruption,” he assured.
He reflected on everything that the revolution does to “produce each dollar and invest it in the people, how much it costs to give birth to resources to invest in education, in the new public health system, in the bricomiles, to pay the workers, to build houses and maintain economic stability. So that entrenched groups of gangsters and thieves come to get their hands on the resources that belong to the Venezuelan people.”
