A crash this Saturday in the Norte Camagüey ring road between a truck and a car loaded with cookies left at least one dead and two injured, one of whom is very serious. The three were traveling in the same vehicle, an almendrón with a loaded trailer.
The accident, not yet confirmed by the official press, has been publicized on social networks by the Cuban journalist Alberto Arego, as well as the Facebook group “Bus & Truck Accidents, for more experience and fewer victims.”
The deceased was, according to the version of some acquaintances, a self-employed worker from Placetas, in Villa Clara, who makes butter cookies and, apparently, was transferring them to another self-employed person who markets them. The injured are the driver of the vehicle and a third passenger.
“He collided with the rear railing of a V8 truck. Apparently at the moment the truck crossed the avenue, the rear door of the bed opened and the car that was passing behind him opened. The railing was the one that hit the car and ripped the whole roof off,” said one user.
“They say that the woman is serious, one of them died and the driver had a head injury. I was there at the time of the accident, I just hope they recover”
“They say that the woman is serious, one of them died and the driver had a head injury. I was there at the time of the accident, I just hope they recover,” added a witness.
Among the commentators on Facebook, some considered the number of packets of cookies seen in the images of the accident to be hoarding, for which a neighbor from Placetas intervened to deny it.
“He had the accident where he lost his life, he was not a hoarder, he was a day and night worker with everything imported, not stolen, and his family and friends are very dismayed. EPD,” he said.
The most recent accident It also affected residents of Villa Clara, when last Sunday, March 12, an ambulance and two vehicles collided, leaving at least 12 injured on the highway to Sagua la Grande and Circunvalación, although fortunately there were no fatalities.
In 2022, traffic accidents increased by 17% compared to 2021, the year with less mobility due to the pandemic. In total, 700 people lost their lives in Cuba in traffic accidents in 2022, an increase of 18% compared to the previous year, with 589.
