During a visit to coffee producing and exporting farms in the province of Chiriquí, former President Martín Torrijos said that it is necessary to transform agriculture to generate employment and change the lives of Panamanians.
“Boquete is a good example of how agriculture can help provide employment and tourism,” he said.
Torrijos stressed that this is a model that we must see in different provinces and that we can together achieve the transformation of agriculture together and of those who live around these productions.
Torrijos visited Francisco Serracin’s laboratory on the Don Pachi Estate and the Lamastus Families Estates coffee farms of Wilford Lamastus.
The producer Francisco Serracin recognized that during the Torrijos administration, he made himself visible and provided tools for the rise of Panamanian specialty coffee, considered today the best coffee in the world.
The national coffee production covers some 7,531 producers, 15,453 planted hectares, a production of around 150,000 quintals of gold coffee; developed mainly in the regions of Chiriquí, Coclé, Panamá Oeste, Veraguas, Colón, Darién and Comarcas
