This Friday, March 17, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, in conjunction with the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, held a solemn burial for the victims who were not identified in the accident that occurred in Gualaca last February.
The burials took place in the Los Guayacanes cemetery with the presence of the bishop of the diocese of David, Monsignor José Luis Lacunza, and authorities from the Public Ministry.
The Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences said that the final disposal of 13 human remains that were not identified or not claimed by the relatives of migrants was coordinated.
The authorities indicated that this procedure, for the final disposal of unidentified or unclaimed corpses or human remains, is endorsed by means of a resolution issued by the General Directorate of the Institute of Legal Medicine and follows the recommendations of the Pan American Health Organizations and the international committee of the Red Cross for the management of corpses.
The authorities have already stated that after 21 victims of this unfortunate accident, which left 41 people dead, were identified, they were handed over to their relatives and after exhausting the identification measures for the corpses, these solemn burials were carried out this Friday.
