Former President Donald Trump launched an attack on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg from his Truth Social platform.
Trump said he is “completely innocent” and that he “did nothing wrong.” “Now the Democrats are at it again, pushing the ‘nuke button’ and attacking a president because of a disgraced extortionist,” he wrote, most likely referring to Stormy Daniels, the porn actress who says she had an affair with him in 2006.
He accused Bragg of being a “radical left-wing Democratic prosecutor backed by George Soros” and running a “sham” investigation against him. But there is no evidence that Soros had anything to do with Bragg’s investigation of Trump.
Trump also called on his supporters: “If the Democrats can do this to President Trump, they can do it to you.”
He also falsely claimed that the investigation is being conducted because he is ahead in the polls “by a wide margin against both Democrats and Republicans.” But again, there is no evidence that the surveys had anything to do with Bragg’s research. In fact, the district attorney’s office has been on the case for years.
Trump was named as “Individual-1” in the 2018 charging documents of his former attorney and personal “fixer,” Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance charges related to a secret payment plan for Daniels. He was sentenced in December 2018 to three years in prison and disbarred in February 2019 from practicing law by the New York Supreme Court.
According to a report from New York Times, Trump is reinforcing his staff to intensify the attacks on Bragg. Part of the plan, assured two sources not identified by the newspaper, consists of spreading the idea that President Bien is behind the investigation.
The New York prosecutor is investigating whether Trump’s payments to Daniels violate election laws and whether that payment should be considered illegal campaign spending. Trump has always denied allegations that he had an affair with Daniels. He also denied paying her $130,000 to keep quiet about their relationship before the 2016 election.
Cohen finished testifying before a New York grand jury on Wednesday. “At the end of the day, Donald Trump must be held accountable for his dirty deeds,” he said.
